I continue to utilize a person centred approach emphasizing the importance of the therapist & client relationship, along with a cognitive behavioural approach to allow the client explore their thought patterns related to the challenging emotions and behaviours they occasionally experience. My counselling philosophy is based on an acknowledgment of the individual’s background and personal beliefs. Thus, l utilize a holistic approach in practice. My expertise allows clients, develop their own perspective of problem solving and empowers individual to make the changes needed in order to accomplish their goals.

Through experience l have the knowledge of the effects individuals experience living each day with the uncertainty of what the future holds. Individual Counselling

I believe both the client and the counsellor are on a journey together as they constantly construct and reconstruct their meanings. I believe each person is an expert of him/herself. In sessions l build an open, safe and non-judgmental connection with clients where they are free to be themselves. It is through this connection that clients are able to be active agents of change enabling them to reach their potential socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically and spiritually. I collaboratively work with clients and choose a counselling approach that best fits the client and their situation. My main theoretical approaches and intensive trainings include:  Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic,  and  Narrative Therapy, Afrocentric Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Given the diversity of my practise, I am able to specialize in helping individuals of varying ages i.e., preadolescence (10-12 years old), young adults, mid-life age and seniors. I have worked with individuals struggling with anxiety, anger, depression, type 1 diabetes, divorce, grief, stress, disabilities, strained friendships/relationships, eating disorders, self esteem, life transitions, trauma and the uncertainty of life i.e., COVID. When working with clients, l bring my passion for counselling and the belief that people can be active agents of change.

Couples Counselling

Our brains are hard wired to be in connection with others relationally.  Being in relationship with our partner can bring out the best and worst in us due to this innate desire to be connected.  Research has shown that people who are in healthy relationships have more enriched lives and live longer.  Therefore it is important we spend time building a strong healthy relationship, developing emotional awareness and learning to repair tricky situations. In couples counselling l use Emotionally Focussed Therapy to help couples become aware of their emotional rhythms and relational dance, whilst drawing from past interactions.  It is through strengthening the emotional connection and identifying transformational moments that couples are able to foster a loving relationship.
